Our Commitment to American Made

“Made in the USA” is a powerful phrase, evoking pride, quality and support for our country. When you buy goods made in America, you keep our economy growing and keep good jobs inside our borders. When you buy American made products, you insist on a higher standard.

For PATCH, being American made reflects our core values of integrity and excellence. In an era where overseas production of consumer electronics is the norm, we are committed to building our products in the United States, helping to usher in a new era of American innovation and bring our manufacturing base home.

“Maintaining a strong engineering and manufacturing base is critical to our nation’s economic health and security,” said Johns Hopkins engineer and PATCH co-inventor Maeve Garigan.

“Other tech companies might do some engineering work in America but then they farm out manufacturing to countries where folks aren’t paid a decent wage and their governments might not like us very much. This can save a few bucks up front, but this practice has gutted our jobs market and creates serious national security issues. I’ve worked for our nation’s military at every level so I know first-hand what happens when we lose critical capabilities in technology design, development, and manufacturing.”

“International trade can be a good thing but over the past few decades penny-wise and pound-foolish business decisions and anti-American trade deals have dangerously eroded our country's engineering and manufacturing capability while contributing to unethical labor practices and environmental problems overseas. It is a lose-lose situation and it’s time for it to stop.”

“Change starts with our individual actions and the PATCH Team is all in on supporting our country’s economy. We can do right by our country, and we can do well as a company. People are surprised when they hear that everything we make is designed and built right here in the US, but that is who we are. We have our values, we stick to them. Our values define us and they serve us well.”

“I encourage everyone to buy American when they can. It is an individual act of patriotism and an investment in our country’s future.”

PATCH inventors, Dana De Coster and Maeve Garigan
By Roper Team 15 Jan, 2024
Like all great products, PATCH started out as an idea to solve a hard problem. Specifically, it was a military problem close to the PATCH inventors, Dana De Coster, a recently retired Navy SEAL, and Maeve Garigan, a Johns Hopkins engineer who spent her career supporting elite military commands.

It’s daybreak in Austin, and retired US Navy SEAL Dana De Coster’s day has begun. His days start differently now—instead of leading an assault on a target in Iraq, he is now shooting a video on how to use PATCH, a new device that he co-invented to help people stay connected in remote, off-grid environments. In between shots, he and his wife Shayla take turns looking after their daughter, Bryn. “Serving my country as a Navy SEAL was what I dreamed of as a kid, so it was difficult to follow up on my dream career. Like many veterans, my transition out of active duty after 20 years of service was a time of soul-searching. How could I find a new, meaningful path as a civilian?”
